History
Even though the history of the University for Foreigners of Siena has begun
to flow since 2009, and there is no doubt that in it you can find recovered
the spirit that animated the institution in Siena, by the Grand Duke of
Tuscany Ferdinand I in 1588, the "Chair of Tuscany Favella? intended for
teaching Italian to German students. In 1916 the first year of the language
and culture courses of the Scuola di Lingua e Cultura Italiana per Stranieri
di Siena was inaugurated. Today the University for Foreigners of Siena is
the heiress of this ancient tradition.
The studies
The University for Foreigners of Siena aims to best perform its task, which
is to spread the Italian language-culture and equally those who come into
contact with it, provides its students with facilities equipped with the
most advanced technologies, research centers and services, such as two
stations for learning Italian and foreign languages. The university also has
multimedia classrooms, a library, offices dedicated to orientation,
tutoring, internships in Italy and abroad, as well as centres for the
certification of language and didactic-professional skills. In addition to
this, the University for Foreigners of Siena also provides numerous
scholarships reserved for foreign and Italian students, provided mainly by
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Monte dei Paschi di Siena

university. The Regional Agency for the Right to Study supports the presence
of students in Siena by offering them quality facilities and services that
are absolutely advanced. Moreover, the Tuscany Region supports direct
contact with the world of work, thus providing students with the means to
carry out systematic internship activities in Italy and abroad, in the work
contexts pertaining to the degree courses. The University offers a wide
range of activities to both teachers and students, such as the award of a
degree, a specialist degree, a specialisation diploma and the title of
research doctor, as well as the organisation of training, refresher courses
and courses for teachers. In addition to institutional courses, there are
also first and second level master's degrees, and doctoral degrees. The
Faculty of Italian Language and Culture is currently active, attended by
almost a thousand students. This faculty allows for a degree course in
Italian language and culture - teaching of Italian language and culture to
foreigners, the duration of which is three years; a degree course in
linguistic and cultural mediation, the duration of which is three years; a
master's degree course in language sciences and intercultural communication,
lasting two years; a master's degree course in textual skills for
publishing, teaching and tourism promotion, lasting two years.
Accommodation and canteen
In order to overcome the problems related to the search for accommodation
for students outside the University for Foreigners of Siena has a guest room
where sixty-one students can find accommodation. This property has several
common areas, such as the living room - study, kitchen, garden, laundry
coin, and rooms equipped for disabled people. In addition, a concierge
service is available, located on the ground floor of the building, which is
open 24 hours a day. As regards the problem of catering, the university has
arranged for all its students to be in possession of Student's, which is a
magnetic card bearing the student's name, type of course, photos, with which
you can have free access to the various university canteens. This card is
issued by the University for Foreigners of Siena and can be collected at the
secretariat of the university itself.
